For the first time in Rochelle, a national skydiving event will take place at Koritz Field this fall.
Chicagoland Skydiving Center recently received word that they will host the United States Parachuting Association National Championships of Wingsuit Flying. The event will take place between September 28th and October 4th at the Rochelle Municipal Airport.
CSC Operations Manager Mike Wood said they are excited about hosting their 1st national skydiving competition.
He said that there will be 2 events. 1 will involve 2 skydivers in different formations. The other is the performance cup that deals with speed, time, and distance. Each skydiver has a GPS on their helmet for the event.
Wood said that between 80 to 100 competitors will be in Rochelle for the week from around the United States and other countries. The goal for Chicagoland Skydiving Center is to hold a world event.
The competition this year took place in England last spring.
The airport remains a busy place this year. Since May 11th, there have been over 47 hundred landings and take offs from the airport. This does not include the skydiving jumps.
The 2 counters at the airport enable city officials to know what type of planes are landing at Koritz Field along with their weight.
