Authorities are investigating after a Winnebago County man and his dog were found shot to death in a home believed to be set on fire. The County Coroner says Henry Murphy was discovered Saturday morning during a fire at his home in Rockford. He and his dog had suffered at least one gunshot wound. Authorities say the pair were already dead before the fire was started. The man's death is being treated as a murder.
