FDA extends deadline for calorie counts postings at food businesses

Fast food restaurants have another year to comply with a federal rule that requires them to post calorie counts for the food they sell. Restaurants, bakeries and other businesses that sell prepared foods had requested more time to redo their menu boards, retrain workers and update software systems for the new rule.

The Food and Drug Administration granted the request Thursday, saying they have decided to extend the compliance date for the calorie rule to December of 2016.
