Future of Fairways golf course remains unknown at this time

The future of the "Fairways" golf course in Rochelle remains unknown at the present time.

Last month, city officials approved $50,000 to help pay for expenses involving the remainder of the golf season. Park officials in Rochelle may make a decision later this month on their request for $50,000.

The Rochelle Greater Economic Development Corporation, also known as Gredco, currently manages the golf course. There is no restaurant or catering business at the present time.

During this week's program of "Let The People Know", former Gredco President Lee Prunty, who is now an advisor to the group, talked about the importance of the golf course to the community.

He said that Gredco has put in more than $130,000 for upgrades in both buildings. Prunty said that there were 10,000 rounds per year over the last 2 years with gross revenue at 350,000 dollars.

Gredco board member Dale Meyers joined Prunty on the program. He said Gredco needed to put money into the golf course for it to remain open which remains a quality of life issue for local residents.

The city is looking for someone right now to open a restaurant or caterling business in the near future.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".

Next week's guest will be Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson.
