The Ogle County Health Department reports that a dead bird found in Mt. Morris has tested positive for the West Nile virus.
Officials say that mosquitoes become infected with the virus and then feed on birds. People 50 years of age or older are at the highest risk for serious illness due to the West Nile virus.
During the recent rainy weather, these mosquitoes normally due not carry the virus. Area residents need to worry during hot and dry conditions.
This is the 1st case of West Nile virus in Ogle County this year.
