State employees will spend a nervous weekend, wondering whether next Wednesday will be a payless payday or whether there will be some kind of budget deal in place. A House-passed one-month budget goes to the Illinois Senate next week, but even if it passes there, workers may still not get paid on time. Governor Rauner says he'd veto a one-month budget, but he could also ignore it. Even though no Republicans voted for the temporary budget, 28 of them either didn't vote or voted "present," and some of them indicated they favored a short-term budget.
