2 Rockford residents suffered serious injuries last night in rural Byron following a single vehicle crash. They were both ejected from the car.
The accident took place on Route 2, about 3 miles north of Byron, a short time before 10.
A Volkswagen driven by 37-year old Gregory Sandquist of Rockford was traveling northbound on Route 2 when the vehicle left the pavement into a ditch. The Volkswagen rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof in the southbound lane of Route 2.
Sandquist along with a passenger in the car, 34-year old Crystal Bishop of Rockford, were both ejected from the vehicle. They were transported by ambulance to a Rockford hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Sandquist was ticketed by Ogle County Sheirff's Police for driving while under the influence of drugs along with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving in the wrong lane and on the shoulder of the road. Other citations included failure to weat a seat belt, no valid driver's license and having no insurance.
Bishop was arrested on the charge of unlawful possession of cannabis along with failure to wear a seat belt.
Both will appear in court on the charges next month in Oregon.
