The new Ogle County ordinance goes into effect July 1st as it expands the Smoke-free Illinois Act to include e-cigarettes, which bans their use in places where traditional smoking products are also prohibited. The citation amounts are the same as the state law and are $100 for an individual’s first offense and $250 for a business.
The Smoke-free Illinois Act, passed in 2008, prohibits smoking in virtually all public places and workplaces, including offices, theaters, museums, libraries, schools, along with enclosed shopping centers, retail stores, restaurants and bars
Second and subsequent offenses for the individual are $250 while a business faces a $500 fine for the second offense and $2500 for subsequent offenses within one year for not taking steps to prevent the use of smoking including electronic vaping devices.
