Ogle County Sheriff's Police have received 3 complaints recently of blacktop scams dealing with the elderly.
Also known as the "Tar and Chip" scam, the incidents took place in the Byron, Mt. Morris, and Leaf River Areas.
Sheriff's police say there are several ways the scam is operated so they can do work on your driveway. They include offering a person a low quote and then giving the individual a higher bill.
The person may also tell the homeowner they are a local company.
Sheriff's police say that area residents should use a local business to do any work around your home and contact the Better Business Bureau in Rockford if they have any questions.
In all 3 incidents in Ogle County, the scammers approached the homeowners and wanted to do blacktop work.
