Tornado hits Sublette last night

For the 2nd time in the past 2 months, a tornado hit the area causing damage to a community.

The twister struck a short time after 8 at Woodhaven Lakes in Sublette. The private camping resort is located along La Moille Road in Lee County. At least 1 person needed medical treatment due to injuries from the storm. There was damage to several campers in the area.

There were a number of down trees also at the camp ground.

The National Weather Service reported a barn blown to the ground in Sublette. The American Red Cross has set up a shelter area in the village.

Com-Ed reported about 13 hundred customers were without power last night. The service is expected to be restored later today.

High winds yesterday evening did damage to the Northland Mall in Sterling. A portion of the roof was torn off at a sports store. No one suffered an serious injuries at the mall.

Winds were reported at around 60 miles per hour last night in the area prior to the tornado.

Police and Fire personnel in Rochelle were watching the direction of the storm last night. Emergency sirens were not activated as the tornado traveled south of the Hub City.

The Rochelle area was struck by a twister on April 9th. There was damage to nearly 80 properties that night in Ogle County.

Crews are at work after tornadoes ravaged parts of North Central Illinois. Reports indicate that at least five twisters touched down in Will, Kankakee, Lee, Grundy and LaSalle counties.  Heavy damage is being reported in a number of communities including Coal City.  Downed power lines shutdown Interstate 55 in Braidwood.

Governor Rauner activated the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Springfield to ensure state personnel and equipment are ready to be quickly deployed if needed to help local emergency responders with public safety issues following tornado touchdowns in several communities in northern Illinois.


?I activated the State Emergency Operations Center to ensure we?re prepared to act quickly if any local responders need our assistance,? said Governor Rauner. ?The Illinois Emergency Management Agency is in close contact with local emergency managers in several counties and stands ready to coordinate deployment of state resources if needed to support local response efforts.?


Representatives from several state agencies are reporting to the SEOC. The center will remain activated as long as necessary.
