A tax abatement for a possible new industry along with reassignment of kindergarten students in the district topped the discussion last night by the Rochelle Elementary Board.
The tax abatement is for project "Green". It would be a 7 million dollar capital investment for the city with 20 to 22 jobs with annual salaries ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 dollars.
School officials tabled the proposal last night. Superintendent Todd Prusator said the board had several concerns which included property break downs and job opportunities for area residents.
The board received information about the city and their "TIF" districts in the downtown area. This would include the Hub Theater, the building on 4th Avenue, along with the possible plaza and public market along Main Street. No final decisions have been made at this time on the project.
Due to fewer kindergarten students for the next fiscal year, school officials are looking at reassignments from Tilton to Lincoln Schools. The district is expected to have 7 sections instead of 8 to balance out the class sizes involving kindergarten students.
Jodee Craven was rehired as Hub Program Manager for the next school year. Mary Jo Moreland will remain as the treasurer for the district.
