Ogle County officials continue to move forward in the removal of 5 underground storage tanks along with the building at 501 West Washington Street in Oregon. A restaurant had been in business at the location before it closed it's doors.
There was also a gas station at 1 time on the property. Long Range and Strategic Planning Chairman Don Griffin of Oregon said that the storage tanks need to be removed for future use of the property.
Plans for the present time is to have a parking lot for around 40 vehicles. The area could be used in the future for an addition involving the Judicial Center in Oregon.
Total cost of the project is expected to be just over $203,500. It should be completed by early October.
The board approved a smoke free ordinance in which the county can keep the entire fine. Right now, half of the amount goes back to the state.
No action was taken on the retail tobacco licensing ordinance. The county is looking at a $100 annual fee for each business.
A resolution was approved for the county's support of a grant dealing with the Lee-Ogle freight rail explansion project in Rochelle. It totals just over 2 miles on 3 railraod tracks.
Appointments last night included Lowell Harp of Oregon and Tracy Brooks of Rochelle to the Mental Health 708 Board. Bob Godman of Byron has also resigned from the Board of Review.
