A new water tower on the south side of town, an increase in electric rates, and engineering work for a water main extention were all approved last night by the Rochelle City Council.
The new water tower is needed for future industrial development in the southeast quadrant of Rochelle. The total cost of the project that includes the 200 foot water tower and well house stands at 3.7 million dollars.
The water well is expected to be working in March of 2016 and the tower should be completed in November of that year.
Electric rates will be going up July 1st for customers of RMU. The average home owner will see their electric bill rise by around $2.60 per month.
The engineering agreement for the water main extension involving Steward and Hayes Roads will cost between 24,000 to 30,000 dollars.
Seal coat work this summer will include North 12th Street, East 2nd Avenue, East Creston Road, Willis Avenue, and Avenue "D", west of Main Street. Motor fuel tax money will pay for the work.
The layout plan for the airport is also expected to cost no more than just over $104,000. The information will be good for the next 15 to 20 years.
