Illinois lawmakers have missed a weekend deadline to pass a budget for the 2016 fiscal year. House Republicans say a collapse of negotiations between Governor Bruce Rauner and leaders of both chambers happened hours before the scheduled end of the Legislature's budget session. House Speaker Michael Madigan told House members on Sunday the chamber will remain in "continuous session" this summer and has called his chamber back for next Thursday. The Senate will reconvene next Tuesday.
