Grubsteakers Restaurant following the tornado
Several hundred area residents on Saturday came out to support a Rochelle restaurant which was destroyed by a EF-4 tornado the night of April 9th.
A benefit was held to raise money for the reopening of Grubsteakers Restaurant at the corner of Illinois 251 and Route 64 in rural Rochelle.
Breakfast and lunch was served at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lindenwood.
The building had been there for over 100 years before it was destroyed by the tornado.
12 people were in a crawl space which included workers and customers when the storm hit the structure. They received only cuts and bruises from the incident.
Owner Ava Mirtoska said she misses her customers since the tornado destroyed her business.
She plans to rebuild Grubsteakers Restaurant near the same location of the former building. The money raised will be used to purchase items needed inside the restaurant.
She hopes to reopen in early 2016.
Monetary donations are being accepted at the Holcomb State Bank in Rochelle.
