Exelon has renewed the possibility of shutting down its three nuclear plants in Illinois as the company fights to get legislative attention for a bill that would make those plants more competitive. With budget issues dominating lawmakers' attention and the session scheduled to end Sunday, it's not clear that Exelon's bill to classify its nukes as "green energy" producers will come to a vote. Lawmakers from the towns where nuclear plant closings would cost hundreds of jobs expect the issue to end in a compromise eventually.
This includes Ogle County as Exelon owns a nuclear power plant in Byron.
