Polo 4th grade student Rebekah Zeilger of Centennial Elementary School has been eliminated from the National Spelling Bee Tournament held in National Harbor, Maryland. Rebekah did not make the Semi-Finals in the competition.
Following a preliminary test on Tuesday, Rebekah spelled both words right in the 2nd and 3rd rounds yesterday. They were "bureaucracy" and "roborant". Her score was not high enough to reach the Semi-Finals.
Zeilger defeated 24 other elementary students from grades 3 through 8 in Ogle and Lee Counties last February to qualify for the national event.
There are 286 spellers at this year's tournament between the age of 9 through 15.
The overall winner will be announced tonight.
