Mayor Chet Olson Retired Air Force Colonel Ray Schwartz
Several Memorial Day ceremonies were held yesterday in area communities as we remembered those individuals who have helped protect this country.
The Rochelle VFW Post 3878 and Ladies Auxiliary had to change their schedule due to the weather. The annual parade was canceled while activities at the Lawnridge Cemetery were postponed.
The Memorial Day service took place at the VFW post in Rochelle. 1 of the guest speakers was Mayor Chet Olson.
The other guest speaker was retired Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Ray Schwartz.
The dedication ceremony for the new Rochelle Veterans War Memorial will now be held on Saturday morning at 10 at the Lawnridge Cemetery. There are 630 veterans who are part of the local War Memorial.
There were other Memorial Day services that took place in the area yesterday. The communities included Creston, Kings, Oregon, Mt. Morris, Ashton, Franklin Grove, and Amboy.
