The Illinois State Supreme Court is once again being held responsible, deciding the result of a lawsuit against tobacco giant Philip Morris. Plaintiffs were awarded over ten-billion dollars in 2003 after claiming the company used fraudulent terms to describe its cigarettes including "light" and "low tar." The verdict was reversed by the State Supreme Court in 2005, only to be reinstated by an appellate court last year. Both parties were brought back to Springfield yesterday after Philip Morris filed an appeal.
