To cap off "National Police Week", the Rochelle police department held an open house for area residents on Saturday.
A number of demonstrations took place along with tours of the police department that included the communication center and jail cells.
Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby said that they wanted the local residents to know what the day to day operations are for the officers. This included equipment used, training, and their facilities.
Demonstrations were held involving gun safety, the use of a taser, along with the K-9 Unit.
Chief Higby also wants his officers to be involved with the community as much as they can. He said local residents should call the department if they need help involving a crime or other matters
Several children rode their bikes to the event as they were involved in the rodeo obstacle course and learned about safety methods from the department's bike patrol.
Other local residents were part of the taser demonstration.
