The Illinois High School Association is launching a new series of projects to prevent concussions, but denies it's being prompted by a potentially costly lawsuit. The new programs, dubbed "Play Smart. Play Hard," provide athletes and parents more information about reducing the risks of concussions and creates a new player-safety council. The private agency that runs high school sports in Illinois was hit in November with a class-action lawsuit claiming the IHSA does too little to protect student athletes.
