The Village of Hillcrest is under new leadership today. Steve Dodson was sworn in last night as the new board president. He had been a trustee on the board prior to last month's Consolidated Election.
Dodson defeated Kim Whalen who had been village board president for the past 4 years.
Also sworn into office as 4-year trustees were Jeanie Sparacino, Rich Elliott, and Tim Ball.
1 position remains open on the board for a 2-year term as no candidates were on the ballot last month.
The board heard an update report on the changes involving the 2015 FEMA flood plain map involving the village. They also plan to go out for bids when it comes to garbage pick-up and a recycling program.
Northern Illinois Disposal currently picks up the garbage in the village as residents have paid the same rate since 1985. Village officials are looking at possible curbside recycling at homes. There is a recycling area currently at the Village Hall building.
The Hillcrest board will meet in special session on June 3rd. The discussion will include the hiring of a village attorney, clerk, treasurer, police chief, and building inspector. They also plan to talk about the 1 open position on the board for a 2-year term.
Village officials did not want to take any action on these positions last night since it was not listed on the agenda for the public.
