For the 2nd consecutive meeting, the Rochelle city council postponed their vote on a 3 million dollar contribution for the the construction of a YMCA in the Hub City. No date was set on when the issue will be brought back on the agenda along with a public hearing on the proposal.
Mayor Chet Olson said that they need to work on more details on the project in the coming weeks. This includes the exact location along with the financial details. Olson has talked to local businesses about money for the construction of the building rather than the city and park district paying for the entire work.
He also wants to get the option from the branding committee about the project. This group is looking at the future image of the community
Last month, Rochelle park officials approved their portion of the 3 million dollars for the YMCA.
City Councilman Don Burke gave his support for both the YMCA committee and people who have voiced their opinions against the project. He believes that private money should be involved with the project.
The council did approve 2 million dollars in general obligation debt certificates for the quiet zone in Rochelle dealing with the train horn issue.
The preliminary and final plat for Rochelle Community Hospital was also given the ok to move forward involving their new 2-story medical office building.
The agreement was also approved between the city and Caterpillar Financial Services dealing with the methane gas power plant at the Rochelle landfill.
Bruce McKinney and Chris Frye were reappointed last night as City Clerk and Treasurer for the new fiscal year.
The council met in executive session to talk about personnel and litigation. No action was taken
