Rochelle Little League remembers tornado victims

Several hundred area residents came out to support the Rochelle Little League on Saturday as the opening day ceremony was held.

Little League officials took time to remember the residents who had their home destroyed or damaged during the April 9th tornado.

A ceremony was held for the new flag pole which has both the American flag and the "Hub Strong", Rochelle Remembers flag blowing in the wind.

The ceremonial 1st pitch was thrown out by Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle to his niece, Jordan Dickey. Both lost their homes from the tornado.

The Spencer Sanderson Award went to Dave Tess of Rochelle for his time and support of Little League baseball for the past several years. Mike Schlenbecker also won the Home Run contest between the managers.

The Creston Regulators also played the coaches in a game.

The Rochelle Little League has 489 boys and girls playing baseball and softball this year.
