Chicago Bears visit Fairdale to help in tornado damage

2 Chicago Bears visited the village of Fairdale on Friday as they helped clean up the debris from the tornado that hit the community earlier this month.

Defensive End Will Sutton and Tight End Blake Annen walked through the damaged town and spoke to residents. Both players helped in the clean up process along with signing a few autographs for the local residents of Fairdale.

The Chicago Bears did donate $100,000 to the United Way of Rock River Valley for the victims of the tornado in the Rochelle area along with Fairdale.

The state's emergency agency is still assessing the damage in the DeKalb County community. Nearly every building in the town of 150 sustained some kind of damage from the tornado.

Officials say it's too early to indicate what state aid will be available to residents and local governments.

It's possible that the aid from the state may come in the form of physical assistance instead of actual money.

Officials from Ogle and DeKalb Counties do not expect to receive any federal emergency aid.

179 structures were reported damaged in Ogle County from the EF-4 tornado. This included around 30 homes destroyed in the subdivisions in rural Rochelle.

2 women died in Fairdale from the storm.
