An effort is being made in the state capitol reduce the punishment for low-level marijuana offenses. The Illinois House approved a bill Thursday that would require individuals caught possessing up to 15-grams of the drug to be issued a ticket rather than be sent to jail. State officials estimate that the measure would save taxpayers around 30-million-dollars and decrease the amount of overcrowding in the prison system.
