Support continues for tornado victims in the area

Ogle County Sheriff's Police have concluded on site operations and have returned to normal patrol following the tornado on April 9th. Any found items in the area can be dropped off at the Sheriff's office in Oregon during normal business hours. Pictures can be place on the found property web page.

Individuals who find personal documents such as passports, social security cards or any weapon should contact the Ogle County Sheriff's Department at 732-2136.

Skare Park in rural Rochelle is expected to be open for residents this week. Hundreds of trees came out of the ground or were knocked over following the tornado.

Students at RTHS ended their "Hub Strong" tornado relief t-shirt fund raiser on Friday. Nearly 3,000 t-shirts were sold during a 5 day period. More than $20,000 was raised for the tornado relief fund.

T-shirts should be available to pick-up at the main office later this week.

Baseball players from Niles West High School donated $900 to the tornado relief fund on Saturday during their game with Rochelle. The students collected the money last week.

A Niles West parent then donated $100 to make the total donation at $1,000 for the fund.

Local and area organizations continue to help the residents in the subdivisions  cleaning up their property and repairing their homes.

Area farmers have also been in their fields  cleaning up from the storm as they get ready for spring planting. They received some help from RTHS students this past weekend.

Residents and volunteers in the village of Fairdale also continued their work over the weekend in cleaning debris from the storm. They received help on Saturday morning for nearly 4 hours from the NIU Football program. 3 buses brought around 70 players along with 15 coaches and staff to help clean up the community.

Volunteers are still be coordinated by Americorp at 761-8078.

Route 72 in Fairdale remains closed for traffic. There remains restricted access for residents and approved volunteers where the tornado did damage.
