A vote is expected to take place today in the state Senate to approve a temporary fix designed to fill a large hole in the state's budget. The Illinois House approved a bill earlier this week that would rearrange money in the current budget to plug a one-point-six-billion-dollar gap. The plan would transfer money from state funded programs and cut the entire budget by two-and-a-quarter-percent. The money would then pay for the salaries of prison guards, court reporters and child care workers.
