Status hearing continued in Rochelle fatal crash

The status hearing has been continued again for a Rochelle man following a reckless driving incident in June of 2013 that killed a local resident.

21-year old Caleb Holder of Rochelle died from blunt trauma to his head as he was struck from behind while riding his motorcycle by a car driven by 42-year old Erick Steffins.

Steffins has been charged with the felony offense of aggravated reckless driving along with DUI. Authorities say that cannabis was found in his system following the accident.

Reports indicate that Holder was riding his motorcycle southbound on Illinois 251 in Rochelle, just before Lakeview Drive, prior to the collision.

Ogle County officials say that Steffins plans to plead guilty to the felony offense of aggravated reckless driving. Ogle County State's Attorney Eric Morrow said that final details are still being worked out with Steffins and the Holder family. A status hearing was scheduled for today.

The next status hearing has now been scheduled for April 13th at 2:30. Steffins is out of jail following the posting of 10 percent or $5,000 of the $50,000 bond.

The case is being heard in front of Circuit Judge Ben Roe.
