The AFC school board approved a reorganizational proposal this week in which students will be moved out of the Middle School in Franklin Grove for the next fiscal year.
Kindergarten through 6th grade students will be in the elementary school in Franklin Grove while the 7th and 8th grade students will move to the AFC High School in Ashton.
The decision came down to finances in the district along with student enrollment.
Last year, the AFC school district had a deficit of $362,000 in the education fund. It could reach over $600,000 this fiscal year.
The Middle School will still be used for athletic events along with other activities.
A public hearing on potential cuts involving certified staff in the district will be held next Tuesday night at 7 in the AFC High School library.
