The Rochelle Ellementary board held a public meeting last night dealing with potential budget reductions for the next fiscal year.
The district is looking at cutting 7 to 8 teachers at the Rochelle Middle School due to the lack of state money. Some of those teachers may find another position in the district.
Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the board had a message to around 35 people who attended the meeting. They talked about the financial problems over the past few years and that changes needed to be made.
Prusator also talked about changes for the teachers at the Middle School during the next school year. They would teach 6 classes instead of the current 5. The class size will be around 25 students.
A final decision on the staff reductions is expected by the board during their March 10th meeting.
School officials also approved 1.5 million dollars in general obligation bonds for Central School.
The money will pay for the geothermal project at a cost of 1.4 million dollars along with a retaining wall which will cost around $130,000.
