Polo 4th grader wins Spelling Bee Contest

4th grade student Rebekah Zeilger from Centennial Elementary School in Polo was the winner yesterday at the Lee/Ogle Spelling Bee event.

The activities took place at Dixon High School.

Rebekah defeated 24 other elementary students from grades 3 through 8 in Ogle and Lee counties. She also won an all expense paid trip to the National Spelling Bee Tournament in National Harbor, Maryland. The national competition begins on May 24th and ends on the 28th.

Finishing in 2nd place was Lydia Cermak who is in 6th grade at the Oregon Elementary School. 3rd place went to 8th grade student Maddy Jacobs from St. Anne School in Dixon.

Prizes given out yesterday included trophies and a $100 U.S. savings bond.
