Governor Bruce Rauner has tapped a Florida Democrat to take over the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. George Sheldon ran Florida's child welfare agency from 2008 to 2011, before working for the federal government and running unsuccessfully for attorney general in Florida. He'll take over an agency whose last permanent director left under a cloud about a criminal conviction. The agency was also embarrassed to admit that it had miscounted the number of children who had died of neglect and abuse in recent years.
