Rochelle man pleads not guilty following altercation with local police

A Rochelle man pled not guilty in Ogle County court yesterday following an altercation with local police last month.

42-year old Mario Messer has been arrested on the charge of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest, along with obstruction and driving on a suspended license.

The incident began when police found the pick-up truck Messer was driving on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks off 1st Avenue, just west of Caron Road, the evening of January 18th.

Messer ran from officers at the scene. He was apprehended a short time later.

Reports indicate that Messer allegedly struck 1 of the officers during the arrest. No one suffered any injuries.

During a preliminary hearing yesterday, probable cause was found in the case by the judge. Messer also demanded a jury trial.

He is scheduled to be back in court on February 23rd for a jury status call. Messer remains in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
