The Rochelle Elementary board held a public hearing last night dealing with a proposed reduction of teaching positions for the next school year due to the lack of state aid for the district.
The layoffs are expected at the Middle School. Superintendent Todd Prusator said that the final layoff number will be announced at the March board meeting. He said that there is a possibility that the teachers at the Middle School may go to another building and replace another staff member.
The district held the hearing since they are reducing their staff by 5 or more teachers which is state regulations.
The board talked about school emergency days due to the winter weather. The district has already used 3 days so far this fiscal year. Last year, 5 days were used.
The resolution for the 1.5 million dollars in general obligation school bonds was tabled last night. The board may meet in special session to approve the bonds for the work.
The geothermal project at Central School will cost 1.4 million dollars while the retaining wall will have a price tag of $130,000. The board may meet in special session within the next 2 weeks to approve the bonds.
School officials also talked about the bullying policy for the district. Added features are needed due to some new state laws.
The board met in executive session to talk about personnel. No action was taken.
