The race for Mayor in Rochelle this spring is back in the news involving 1 of the candidates.
Current Mayor Chet Olson is looking for a 4th term in office. He is being challenged by Aaron Brooks.
During Monday's city council meeting, Brooks talked about his past to city officials involving a prior felony conviction dealing with money being taken from a family member. He was sentenced to jail time and probation for the offense.
Newstalk 1060 talked with Ogle County Clerk and Recorder Becky Huntley about the eligibiity of Brooks for the Consolidated Election on April 7th due to his felony conviction.
The State Board of Election told Huntley that Brooks can remain on the ballot since no one objected to the petition he filed during a period of time.
If he won the major's race, Huntley said that he could not be sworn in to the position since a felon can not hold a municipal office in Illinois.
Brooks does have time to remove his name from the ballot prior to the Consolidated Election in April.
