Rochelle man back in court following altercation with police

Bond remains at $100,000 for a Rochelle man following an altercation with local police last Sunday night.

42-year old Mario Messer was arrested on the charge of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest, along with obstruction and driving on a suspended license.

The incident began when police found the pick-up truck Messer was driving on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks off 1st Avenue, just west of Caron Road.

Messer ran from officers at the scene. He was apprehended a short time later.

Messer allegedly struck 1 of the officers during the arrest. No one suffered any serious injuries.

Messer appeared in court yesterday for an arraignment. He returns before a judge on February 4th for a preliminary hearing. At that time, Messer will plead guilty or innocent to the charges.

He remains in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
