The value of the Exelon nuclear power plant in Byron saw a decline of 27 million dollars from a year ago.
The Ogle County Board of Review recently approved the plant's assessment at 482.4 million dollars. That's around 5 percent less that Supervisor Jim Harrison has set last fall at 509.4 million dollars.
The real estate taxes paid for 2015 will be based on the 2014 assessment.
Exelon officials thought the value of the plant was at 212.6 million dollars.
In 2014, Exelon paid more than 34 million dollars in real estate taxes to 11 taxing bodies. The Byron School district received the largest amount from the figure at just over 19 million dollars.
