Teachers at Kishwaukee Community College in Malta will not walk off their jobs today.
The union met Tuesday and decided to suspend the strike due to a tentative agreement reached by bargaining teams on Monday. Terms of the new contract will not be released until the deal is ratified.
The college board of trustees at Kish had planned to meet in special session Friday to talk about the contract. That meeting has not been cancelled.
The union plans to hold its contract ratification vote starting next Tuesday over a 24 hour period per their bylaws.
Money and benefits were key issues during the negotiations that began last March. The Education Association has 81 full-time employees at Kish.
