Rochelle officials want more information on YMCA project

City and park officials in Rochelle are still looking for additional information before a final decision is made on the possible construction of a YMCA in the community.

The council and park board approved an intergovernmental agreement this week to move forward with the project. Construction of the facility is estimated at 6 million dollars. This includes a gym, fitness area, and walking track.

During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson talked about the financial status for the project.

The city and park district were asked to donate 3 million dollars each for the construction of the YMCA.

Olson also said that he would be in favor of an advisory referendum to get the viewpoint of area residents if they want this building.

Public informational meetings are expected to be scheduled in the near future on this project.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
