Rochelle City Council and park officials meet Monday to talk about YMCA proposal

The Rochelle City Council along with the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District board will meet on Monday night at 7 as they discuss an intergovernmental agreement dealing with a possible YMCA in the community.

The gathering will be part of the council meeting at city hall.

Both the council and park board have been asked to donate 3 million dollars each for the construction of the 31,000 square foot building.

The facility will have 2 floors. The 1st floor will have a gym which would be around 10,000 square feet along with an exercise area, a daycare and community room and locker rooms. The 2nd floor will have a 3 lane walking track along with a wellness and fitness area.

1 of the possible locations for the YMCA would be at the intersection of 20th Street and Hub Drive between Rochelle Township High School and Lincoln School. RTHS district owns the property.

Another possible site would be on the south side of the Helms Athletic Complex behind Walgreens.

Monday's meeting is open to the public.
