Residents in the Rochelle Township High School District will see a slight decline in their next tax bill. The board approved the tax levy last night which was about a half percent lower than a year ago.
The tax rate has also declined. Superintendent Jamie Craven said that the rate would drop by around 5 cents.
The board approved the 2015-16 school calendar last night as the 1st day of classes will be August 17th. They also named Sherri Smith as the new Director of Transportation. She has been with the district for over 15 years in the Transportation Department.
Smith replaces Dick Devore who plans to retire on June 30th of next year.
School officials also heard an update report on a possible YMCA for the community. It could be located on property owned by the school district near 20th street and Hub Drive.
Craven said that the only donation from the schol district could be the land for the facility.
Following an executive session, the board expelled a student for the remainder of the current school year and the next school year for violation of district policy. The placement of the teen is pending.
