DeKalb County Sheriff's Police arrested an Aurora teen along with a 16-year old boy yesterday afternoon following an altercation with a deputy at Kishwaukee Community College in Malta.
The confrontation began when the deputy, who was working at the college, received word of a cell phone that was stolen. When the deputy found the 16-year old boy walking in the parking lot who he saw on video, he gave back the phone to the victim.
When he was told he was under arrest, the teen took off running in the parking lot. When the officer caught up to the boy, a fight took place. The deputy received an injury to his head.
During the arrest of the teen, 18-year old Maurice Hayes of Aurora allegedly tried to pull the deputy off the suspect and later allegedly punched the victim of the cell phone in the face.
The deputy received treatment for his head injury at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb and was then released.
The 16-year old boy, who was wanted on a Kane County warrant, was charged with aggravated battery, theft, obstructing justice, and resisting arrest.
