Rochelle City Council meeting

The approval of the 2014 tax levy along with an update report of the RMU Geographic Information System topped the discussion last night for city officials in Rochelle.

The tax levy saw an increase of 4.9 percent from a year ago. The EAV for the city is estimated to be at 220.6 million dollars. That is an increase of around 5 million dollars than a year ago.

In a 7-0 vote, city officials aprroved a package liquor license for Walgreens who has been in Rochelle for the past 6 years. It's the first time they have been able to sell alcohol to their customers.

In June of 2013, the city approved a license agreement with Environmental Systems Research for Geographic Information Service software. RMU Electric Superintendent Joe Orlikowski talked about the benefits of the system last night. He said the GIS is beneficial when there is a power outage or other problems with the system.

Other departments in the city are also expected to use the GIS system in the future.

Ryan Beery was also introduced last night as the new police officer for the department. He will be going to the State Police Academy on January 5th for a 12 week training period.
