It looks like the minimum wage bill is dead in Springfield. The Senate sponsor was hoping to push the bill through by the end of the week. She'd even altered it so the wage would only jump to nine bucks an hour next year instead of ten, but there doesn't seem to be enough support in the House. A spokesman for Speaker Michael Madigan says they don't plan to vote on the issue before wrapping up veto session later today.
Minimum wage workers in Chicago will be seeing a pay raise in the coming years. The Chicago City Council voted Tuesday to raise the minimum wage to 13 dollars an hour by 2019. Workers who are making the current minimum wage of eight-25-an-hour right now will start getting ten-bucks-an-hour next July.
