Mary Jane Reed murder case

An Oregon businessman believes that exhuming the body of a Rockford man may result in new evidence in the murder of 2 area residents in June of 1948.

Mike Arians, former Mayor of Oregon, said that the process may result in information in the murder of 17-year old Mary Jane Reed of Oregon and 28-year old Stanley Skridla of Rockford. The 2 were last seen on a date before their bodies were found. They both died from gun shot wounds.

Arians said that the skull of Reed and possibily the gun used in the shooting may be found in the coffin of Skridla.

The exhume process was approved by a Winnebago County judge at the Calvary Cemetery in Rockford. It must be completed by June 30th of 2015.

Reed's body was exhumed in 2005, but no new evidence resulted in the process.

No arrests have every been made in the case.

Arians is currently working with Rockford Police along with Winnebago County officials involving the case.
