After nearly 6 months of closure, the School Avenue bridge opened yesterday afternoon for traffic in Rochelle.
The bridge is located between May and the Middle Schools in the Hub City. Rochelle City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that motorists will notice a new look for the bridge which includes wider sidewalks on the side. There was also work done on the banks of Kyte Creek.
The intersection with Turkington Terrace was also changed to improve traffic in the area.
The project began in May and was delayed due to a couple of factors. The include a gas line near the bridge along with the recent weather.
Tesreau said that there are 3 to 4 other bridge projects that are scheduled to be done within the next 6 years in Rochelle.
Total cost of this project involving the bridge and intersection came in at 1.4 million dollars.
