Hillcrest board meeting

Village officials in Hillcrest saw a draft last night of the ordinance dealing with future sanitary sewer in the community.

Last month, state officials announced that Hillcrest will received a $450,000 C-DAP grant for the project.

They have also applied for an Illinois EPA Loan of 2.5 million dollars which involves 63 homes along with the business area. The village should know by late spring or early summer of 2015 if they will receive the loan.

Last night's ordinance deals with what can go into the sanitary sewer system. This includes permit and inspection fees which would cover the village's cost of the work.

What it will cost the home owner will be determined later said Village Board President Kim Whalen. She said each home may vary in the cost of the sewer project.

The board approved the purchase of a water system alarm at a cost of just under $5,000. They also hired Ben Wittenauer as a part-time Water Superintendent for the village.

Hillcrest officials approved a contract with RMU for fiber optics. The initial cost would be $7,000 with the monthly fee of around $360.

A local resident also talked to the board about a pit bull that had killed the family dog and injured 1 other. The dog was ruled  dangerous by Ogle County animal control. If the dog would have been ruled visious, it would not be allowed in Hillcrest

The board also approved the vacation time pay for employees.
