Illinois has a new Governor

It looks like Illinois is getting a new governor. Bruce Rauner is the projected winner of yesterday's race. He beat out Governor Quinn with about 50-percent of the vote. He says he called the Democratic leaders in Springfield and let them know he's ready to work with them to get things done. Rauner will face a multi-billion-dollar budget shortfall as soon as he hits office if the income tax rate rolls back, like he wants it to.

Governor Quinn isn't calling it quits just yet. Preliminary numbers show he lost the race to Republican Bruce Rauner yesterday, but Quinn says he won't concede until all of the votes are counted. That could take days. Quinn says he'll hold out for however long it takes.

Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka is getting another four-years.  She beat out Sheila Simon yesterday, with about 50-percent of the vote.  Simon wasn't far behind though, she had about 45-percent of the vote.  Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Secretary of State Jesse White are also holding on to their jobs.  The long-serving Democrats both snagged at least 60-percent of the vote to beat out their opponents.

The treasurer's race is still too close too call.  Only about one-percentage point separates Republican Tom Cross and Democrat Mike Frerichs.   A preliminary count puts Cross ahead but Frerichs isn't backing down.  His campaign spokesman says they think there's a healthy chunk of uncounted votes that will fall in their favor, especially in Cook County.  He says Frerichs won't be calling it quits until all the votes are counted and prove Cross is indeed the victor.
