A Rochelle man escaped serious injuries last night after the car he was driving struck a street light along with a utility pole.
The crash took place a short time before 11 on South Main Street at Cain Parkway in the Hub City.
A car driven by 34-year old Wilver Rivera of Rochelle was traveling southbound on Main Street when he fell asleep behind the wheel.
The car traveled off the road into a ditch. It then became airborne as it traveled over a culvert and struck a light pole. The vehicle continued southbound as it then hit a utility pole before coming to a stop.
Rivera refused medical treatment at the scene. He was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
